William E. Denton is the President and CEO of Entertainment Development Group, Inc. (EDG), based
in Los Angeles.
For 25 years Mr. Denton has been exclusively involved in retail real estate development and is
responsible for the construction of over 13 million square feet of commercial space. Mr.
Denton’s expertise is in all aspects of real estate development, from finding new opportunities
and large acquisitions for redevelopment, to managing over one billion dollars of new
construction.
Prior to the formation of EDG in 1994, Mr. Denton served as Executive Vice President of
Westfield, Inc., an international shopping center development company with over $3.7 billion in
assets in the United States, and the largest shopping center developer in Australia. Mr. Denton
directed all acquisition and development activities in the United States.
Before joining Westfield, Mr. Denton was Vice President of Regional Mall Development for
Homart Development Co., in Chicago, Illinois, one of the nation’s largest commercial real estate
companies. While with Homart, Mr. Denton was responsible for the development of Baybrook
Mall, Deerbrook Mall and Willowbrook Mall in Houston.
Mr. Denton was also an urban and environmental planner on Long Island, New York.
In November 1998, Mr. Denton developed Denver Pavilions on two blocks in downtown Denver. The $107 million, 350,000 sq. ft. urban entertainment retail project has won numerous awards, including the prestigious International Council of Shopping Centers Design and Innovation Award in 2002.
Denver Pavilions' unique tenant mix includes: NIKEtown, Virgin Megastore, Hard
Rock Café, Maggiano's, Corner Bakery, Barnes & Noble, and the region's
flagship United Artists cinema complex, making it Denver's number one downtown destination.
Apparel tenants include Banana Republic, Gap, Ann Taylor, Talbots, Express and Victoria's Secret.
Mr. Denton has written numerous professional papers and presented keynote addresses on
various development and planning topics nationally.
Mr. Denton holds a B.A. and M.A. from Kent State University in Urban Design and Urban
Planning.
